A man in his 30s with “significant” underlying health issues has died of Covid at Northern Beaches Hospital.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian confirmed yesterday’s death at Wednesday’s Covid press briefing.

It is understood the man was admitted to Northern Beaches Hospital on Saturday, where he was put on a ventilator.

Ms Berejiklian told the media at 11am that “unfortunately a man in his 30s died in hospital”.

“Again, our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to his family and friends.

“We do want to stress that the man in his 30s did have other conditions as well.

“Not withstanding that, he did succumb to Covid.”

During the media briefing, the state’s chief medical officer, Kerry Chant, also confirmed the death occurred in Northern Beaches Hospital on Tuesday.

Dr Chant said the man was not vaccinated against Covid.

“But (he) had some significant underlying health conditions.”

A man in his 90s also died in Concord Hospital yesterday.

The two deaths come as the Premier revealed that there were 344 new cases of Covid recorded in NSW.

Local Covid figures on the northern beaches reveal the number of active cases have increased by one to 27.

The cases are in Manly, 2; Forestville, 3; Frenchs Forest, 1; Belrose, 5; Elanora Heights, Narrabeen, Ingleside, 3; Collaroy, 2; Cromer and Dee Why, 4; Allambie Heights, Beacon Hill and Brookvale, 6, and Palm Beach, 1. There are now no active cases in Warriewood. In the last four weeks there have been 42 Covid cases on the peninsula, with a number now recovered.

On Tuesday, one new case was recorded on the northern beaches.

Ms Berejiklian said at least 65 of those people were infectious in the community.
