Police search council threatened with bomb detonation
Wollondilly Council has been the target of a generic bomb hoax which saw all staff evacuate the Administration Building this afternoon. It is unknown the source of the hoax threat.
Wollondilly Council has been the target of a bomb hoax which saw the administration building evacuated today.
Officers from Camden Police Area Command and Fire and Rescue NSW attended the council Administration Building, located on Picton’s Menangle St, shortly after midday in response to a threatening email.
The email, sent to a generic council email address, indicated there were three explosive devices placed in the building, which would be deactivated unless a bitcoin payment was made.
Camden Police, following advice from the NSW Police Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, systematically searched the building and no explosives were located.
All staff have since returned to the building.
Camden PAC Acting Inspector Pereira said the hoax threat was a generic email which had been sent to various businesses in the past week.
“Police have gone out to the site, gone through the process in relation to bomb threats and as a result nothing was located,” he said.
It is unknown the source of the hoax email.
