It has been a fairytale fortnight for Camden’s new cupcake queen Rhi Bentley, selling thousands of her delicious and delightfully Instagrammable cupcakes to admirers who have lined the streets.
Unveiling her store, Sweet Treats by Rhi, in Camden’s Capitol Arcade only two weeks ago, the Werombi 24-year-old could never have imagined the response from near and far.
From a range of 30 tantalising flavours including Maltese doughnut, vanilla passionfruit (Rhi’s personal favourite), to even vegan-style cupcakes - the sweet treats have marched out of the door at an overwhelming pace.
Every single day the store has sold completely out of cupcakes - sometimes within only two hours - despite Rhi significantly boosting the numbers of cupcakes crafted for each day.
“The response has been incredible,” she said.
The 24-year-old said it was a world away from navigating her first cupcake adventure only five years ago in her family kitchen, baking vanilla cupcakes with pink icing.
“I think I surprised myself how naturally I did it,” she said.
“I didn’t feel that I had to force it and after trying a couple of times, I really actually enjoyed it.
“I was getting a good response from my personal social media and my confidence grew.”
Two years ago Rhi launched Sweet Treats by Rhi and was an instant hit on social media with her stunning cupcake designs.
“I go for the big, more extravagant flavours that I think are going to look good on the shelf so that people are going to see it and try it,” she said.
Rhi said Camden was always going to be home for her first cafe and encouraged all Sydneysiders to sample her “niche” cupcake cafe.
