WEAR sunscreen and gloves and avoid climbing up ladders and using machinery if you are planning on getting your togs off for World Naked Gardening Day on Saturday.

This is the message from Campbelltown’s Tim’s Garden Centre owner Tim Pickles who also suggests people find a quiet spot in their backyard garden where they will not startle the neighbours if they plan to strip off on the day.

“If you can’t find somewhere suitable, take the time to look around the garden and plant a hedge or a tree so you can take part next year,’’ Mr Pickles said.

“Our gardens are becoming so nude and we have no privacy any more, that’s the sad part about it.’’

With the temperature in Campbelltown and Camden forecast to be a sunny 25C on Saturday, Mr Pickles also advised people to watch out for ants and insects if they were planning on getting their gear off on the day.

Tim and his Pig mascot, which sits outside the garden centre, will both be taking part in World Naked Gardening Day this year.

However after attracting national attention by getting his gear off for a live interview on Channel 7’s Weekend Sunrise to promote World Naked Gardening Day last year, Mr Pickles said he was planning to be more low key this year.

Pig, the popular social commentator, is already promoting the day by sitting strategically behind some pot plants outside the garden centre.

Despite the fun and jokes, Mr Pickles said there was a serious message behind his support of World Naked Gardening Day.

“Our (house) blocks are tiny and we live on top of each other and the trees are getting chopped down everywhere,’’ he said.

“It’s an opportunity for us to look and our lives and say can we make it better, and greener.

“Plant a flower or tree or pot a plant.

“If your place looks better you feel better and if you do want to participate you can.’’

Mr Pickles said gardening and having a laugh was also good for a person’s mental health.
