Mezzapica Cakes manager Andre Portelli said the family decided to open in the Macarthur area following feedback from customers.

‘A lot of our customers said they were travelling from the Macarthur area to visit and buy their sweets and we felt there was a great deal of demand for our products from that area,’’ Mr Portelli said.

“We also thought the location was further enough away from our Leichhardt shop so we would not be taking business away from there.’’

The delicious news means Macarthur area residents will no longer have to drive for more than an hour and a half to Norton St, Leichhardt, to get their fix of the dessert shop’s tortes, cakes, cannoli, bigne, rum baba and biscotti.

The shop will also sell light savoury snacks.

One excited resident said on Facebook: “I am so finally happy. I have been driving out to Leichhardt, just to visit you, for years. Thank you for moving five minutes down the street from me. Thank you so, so much.’’
