A spectacular water wonderland oasis is set to transform the heart of Campbelltown, with the city staking a claim as a tourist hub.

Work has officially begun on the iconic $19 million lagoon precinct, which will welcome half a million visitors each year.

The unique water attraction is building on the city’s campaign for Sydneysiders to ‘re-imagine’ Campbelltown as a vibrant, thriving destination and shed all negative perceptions.

Campbelltown Mayor George Brticevic said the precinct, to be known as the Campbelltown Billabong Parklands, would attract visitors from far and wide.

“I’m delighted to see the start of what is a momentous project for our community and will provide the many families that live in Campbelltown with a place to gather, have fun and create many amazing memories,” he said.

“We heard how excited our community is for this project and we’ve put special attention into features like the main billabong pool which really captured the imagination of our residents.”

The Campbelltown Billabong Parklands, located on the corner of The Parkway and Moore-Oxley Bypass in Bradbury, is set to be completed by mid-2022.

The design, which is indigenous-inspired, includes unique features such as cascades, streams as well as a cafe, picnic facilities and children’s pool.

The project, which is funded by the Western Sydney City Deal, is expected to generate 180 construction jobs.
