The popularity of the Camden area’s first water play park has been a double-edged sword, with nearby residents frustrated by the deluge of cars clogging up their suburban streets.

Macarthur Chronicle readers have snapped pictures of motorists’ most creative endeavours for a parking spot close to Elderslie’s Curry Reserve Water Play Park, including mounting the kerb to park on verges and off road.

Elderslie resident Martin Burford praised the delivery of a water play park but criticised the lack of parking provided.

“The water park is a great thing for kids and their families,” Mr Burford said.

“What a shame about the poor planning for the location. The local residents now have to suffer the nightmare of the parking issues: now one-way streets, parking on footpaths and breaking of road rules.”

Another resident Katty Green also voiced her displeasure: “Water park is great at Elderslie, but a two-way street has become a one way, people are parking on residents front yards, parking over driveways and disobeying road rules! Great idea but awful spot!”

A Camden Council spokesman said the recent heatwave had triggered a boost in visitors to the water play park.

“Due to the recent hot weather conditions, Curry Reserve is experiencing larger than normal patronage use of the Water Play Park,” the spokesman said.

“Parking restrictions including No Parking and No Stopping signs have been implemented along Wilkinson St to assist with visibility and traffic flow. Council rangers patrol the area to ensure visitors park legally.

“In response to the recent hotter weather conditions, council has installed additional signage directing patrons to the overflow parking and additional waste bins.”

Parking for the water play park is available at Curry Reserve and on Wilkinson St, with overflow parking available at Harrington Green, on the corner of Harrington and Hilder streets, Elderslie.

Plans for nearby additional parking have been outlined in the Kirkham Park Masterplan.
