A skate park in Appin and planning for a cultural and civic precinct in Picton are among several projects which will be funded through the Western Sydney City Deal.

Minister for Western Sydney Stuart Ayres announced today a number of projects to be funded by the deal’s Liveability Program.

The Wollondilly projects to receive funding include a district skate facility at Appin, outdoor fitness equipment in eight locations across the region, planning and consultation for a cultural and civic precinct in Picton as well as future planning for a regional sporting complex at Tahmoor.

Western Sydney Minister Stuart Ayres made the announcement today surrounded by council mayors.

Work on the skate facility and exercise stations will begin this financial year.

Campbelltown Council previously announced it was building a Billabong precinct at Bradbury’s Apex Park under the same funding arrangement.

Wollondilly Mayor Matthew Deeth said it was exciting for local residents for these projects to come to life.

“This community infrastructure will make a positive difference to our residents; promoting healthy lifestyles, supporting cultural activities and making Wollondilly an even better place to live, learn, work and play,” he said.

The Western Sydney City Deal is an arrangement between the federal and state governments and eight councils including Camden, Campbelltown and Wollondilly.

Each of the projects across the eight councils will be co-funded by the three levels of government, with the Australian and NSW governments each contributing $60 million to the program.

Councils are providing a further $50 million to the program.

A second round of funding will be announced later this year.
