GET ready to begin the journey for love, with a Macarthur region beauty set to send hearts into a flutter on Channel 10s new season of The Bachelor.
Former St Patrick’s College, Campbelltown, student Alix McDermott, from Varroville, an attractive, tall body-painter has opened her heart to love after a close friend forwarded the show’s application form to her.
“I had been single for a really long time,” she said.
“A close friend and great wingman sent me an application form and I decided to take the plunge and give it a crack.”
The blonde 24-year-old was a talented netballer for the Varroville club, representing South West Academy of Sport, NSW and Australia as well as being a national finalist in the Cosmopolitan Model Management search as an 18-year-old.
Noting similarities with former popular The Bachelor contestant Heather from season three, Miss McDermott said she too was overly familiar with the friend zone.
“I am just a bit of a hermit I guess, and spend a lot of time at home,” she said.
“It was a big decision to put myself out there on the show and hope for love.”
She will be joined in the Bondi Bachelor house by 21 other contestants, vying for the attention of bachelor Matty J.
Matt Johnson was left heartbroken on the last season of The Bachelorette, when he was the runner up for Georgia Rose’s love.
Miss McDermott said he was definitely a catch.
“He ticks a lot of the boxes that you are searching for in a guy,” she said. “He is just a stand-up great guy.” The talented body painter said she would be a fun-loving larrikin and tomboy inside the Bachelor house.
“I am looking forward to a little bit of banter with Matty — I am not the most serious person,” she said.
“I love to have a good laugh and I hope he appreciates my terrible sense of humour. I can heckle opponent’s sporting teams, I enjoy pizza and beer and watching NFL.”
Miss McDermott said she is enjoying every second of the show, with the bright lights and cameras of reality television becoming second nature. “The experience is amazing and it is great to enjoy it with so many beautiful girls.”
Miss McDermott hopes the Macarthur region will join her in her journey for love.
“I really enjoyed my time growing up in Macarthur.”
The Bachelor will air on Channel 10 at 7.30pm on Wednesday.
