The transformation of Leppington’s iconic Lockies Hotel is edging closer with Camden Council unanimously endorsing plans to bring new life to the site.
A $22 million development, including a Dan Murphy’s liquor store, 80-room motel and super-sized tavern, could soon call the Camden Valley Way site home to the delight of the growing Leppington community.
Camden Council endorsed plans to allow extra uses on the site and have forwarded the proposal to the Department of Planning for the final tick of approval.
Once the green light is received, liquor store and accommodation uses would be allowed on the medium density residential zoned site.
Despite the residential zoning, Lockies Hotel has been operating under existing use rights.
Camden Labor councillor Cindy Cagney said at Tuesday’s meeting she was happy to support the recommendation made by council officers.
“I know there has been a lot of planning and discussions around this and hopefully the site can be regenerated,” she said.
The property, located on the corner of Camden Valley Way and Ingleburn Rd, is owned by Laundy Trading (Bristol Arms) Pty Ltd and is leased to ALH Group which operate more than 330 licensed venues across Australia.
The development, if approved, is expected to create about 100 full time jobs.
Documents lodged as part of the planning proposal indicate the development is expected to be completed by mid-2021.
