Thirlmere man, 41, accused of luring schoolgirl at Balmoral with ‘scratchies’

A Thirlmere man 41-year-old has been arrested by officers from Camden Police Area Command after he allegedly attempted to lure a 13-year-old schoolgirl from a Balmoral bus stop yesterday.

Thirlmere man Rodney Russell Taylor has been arrested after allegedly attempting to lure a schoolgirl, 13, from a bus stop.

The 41-year-old was charged with eight offences including wilful and obscene exposure, intimidation, drug possession and attempt to detain a person to obtain advantage.

He was arrested about 9.40am yesterday by officers from Camden Police Area Command and taken to Narellan Police Station where he was charged.

Police allege Taylor attempted to lure the girl into his car to purchase ‘scratchies’ as she waited for her school bus on Wilson Dr, Balmoral about 7.40am yesterday.

The child moved away before boarding the bus when it arrived, where she reported the alleged incident to the driver.

The girl’s mother, who was in the area at the time, was allegedly approached by Taylor shortly after the incident.

Police say he exposed himself to the woman, became abusive and then drove away.

Police conducted an extensive search for his car and located it in Westbourne Ave, Thirlmere, about 9.40am, where Taylor was arrested.

When detained at Narellan Police Station, it is alleged the Thirlmere man damaged a holding cell.

He has been charged with detain person with intent to obtain advantage, two counts of intimidation, wilful and obscene exposure, two counts prohibited drug possession, drive while licence cancelled and malicious damage to property.

The 41-year-old applied for bail at Campbelltown Local Court this morning and it was refused by the Magistrate.

The matter will return to court on September 3 at Moss Vale Local Court.
