The untold story of the thousands of volunteers who brought Oran Park Raceway roaring to life has been penned to paper, by former volunteer Neville Beyer.

The book The Quickest way round is on the Bitumen, supported by Greenfields Development Company, tells the story of the life of Oran Park Raceway from 1962 to 2010, in which Mr Beyer was a volunteer from the track’s first race until its very last in 2009.

Greenfields Development Company director Mark Perich said the book launch was a special afternoon.

“The raceway was a real social place for those people who really enjoyed motorsport,” he said.

“The launch was like a reunion of the volunteers and some of the drivers who are now street names in Oran Park.

“It was quite pleasing to hear they had positive views about the development in the area.”

All profits from the book will go to volunteers in the motor racing industry.
