The $70M blueprint to change the face of Picton
Picton is set to undergo a 20-year transformation with a blueprint endorsed to create a $70 million cultural precinct in the heart of town.

A $70 million blueprint to change the face of sleepy Picton has received the green light, paving the way for a contemporary cultural heart of the fast-growing community.
The 20-year plan, recently approved by Wollondilly Council, will deliver a 350-seat performance centre, library, town square, council administration building and possibly an art gallery.
Wollondilly Mayor Matthew Deeth told the Chronicle the masterplan signalled Picton’s coming of age.
“This is quite a gamechanger for Picton,” he said.
“This will provide that cultural heart and cultural civic centre for the Shire in a way that we haven’t had before”
“We want something where the community can say ‘you know what, that represents our community, that is who we are as a group of people’.”
The five-stage plan is estimated to cost more than $70 million and will be funded from developer contributions, grant funding and loans.
The cultural, civic precinct has been inspired by elements of Springwood Cultural Centre and Shellharbour Civic Centre.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Works on the first $15 million stage, which include the refurbishment of the historic Shire Hall and construction of the performance centre, could begin next year.
A new council administration building, valued about $35 million, is also slated to begin construction next year.
