Fourteen months since a teenager was left unconscious in a Red Rooster car park on New Year’s Eve, two teenagers have been sentenced at Campbelltown Children’s Court for their role in the bashing.
An 18-year-old, of Airds, and 16-year-old, of Liverpool, pleaded guilty to reckless grievous bodily harm in company and were sentenced last Thursday.
They received a seven-month suspended sentence and 11-month sentence respectively.
A 21-year-old Campbelltown man will face court on the same charge in March.
The teenagers pleaded guilty to their roles in the New Year’s Eve bashing in 2017, which left the then 16-year-old victim with a broken nose, two missing teeth and foot imprints across his forehead.
The teenage victim, who did not wish to be identified, spoke to the Chronicle in the days after the incident.
“It was scary. I’m scared to leave the house at times now,” he said. “I’m worried the group is still out there.”
Court documents state the victim and his friends the altercation began in Koshigaya Park between 9-10pm on New Year’s Eve, with the 16-year-old offender accusing the victim of teasing his sister.
The victim walked away but was then chased by the teenagers, who punched and kicked the teenager in the Red Rooster carpark.
The teenager fell to the ground unconscious, where the offenders continued to kick and stomp on his head.
Campbelltown PAC crime manager Detective Inspector Greg Inger said an extensive investigation was undertaken following the incident, leading to the three charges in April last year.
“With the assistance of the public and an extensive investigation, we have identified and charged the appropriate offenders and they are now before the courts.
“There are no more outstanding offenders in this matter.”
