Mt Annan teacher convicted for blowing four times legal limit while driving

A schoolteacher has been convicted of high range drink driving after blowing nearly four times over the legal limit, telling the court she had been drinking vodka after a difficult day at school.

A schoolteacher has been convicted of high range drink driving after blowing nearly four times the legal limit, telling the court she had been drinking vodka after a difficult day at school.

Annunziata Nicole Gibbons, 44, of Mt Annan, told Magistrate Ian Cheetham at Picton Local Court yesterday she had returned home from a difficult work day on March 28 and began drinking vodka.

About 9.45pm that night, the single mum-of-three was detected driving a Jeep Wrangler on Main St, Mt Annan, before being pulled over by Camden Highway Patrol for a random breath test.

Teacher Annunziata Nicole Gibbons, 44, was convicted of high range drink driving at Picton Local Court yesterday.

She recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.195 and had her licence confiscated on the spot.

Gibbons, supported in court by another woman, told Mr Cheetham she had been dealing with a marriage breakup and had sought treatment for her alcohol use after the incident.

When Mr Cheetham asked the 44-year-old what she had told her three children, aged 11, 13 and 16, Gibbons said she “told them everything”.

“There is no excuse for my behaviour,” she said.

Gibbons only previous traffic infringement had been parking in a no stopping zone in 1995.

The teacher was convicted and had her licence disqualified for seven months, and was placed on a mandatory interlock order for two years.

She was also fined $500 and placed on a 12 month Community Correction Order.
