A $100 million large format retail centre will go ahead alongside the region’s newest health precinct in Gregory Hills.
The Sydney South West Planning Panel approved the centre today, paving the way for construction to begin next year with a planned completion date in 2020.
The SOMA Lifestyle precinct will bring a cinema complex, two hotels, an indoor recreation centre, restaurants and a range of business premises alongside the under-construction SOMA Wellness health hub and the soon-to-be-built private hospital, to be known as the Camden Medical Campus as part of the broader Gregory Hills Corporate Park.
SOMA Lifestyle will sit on a six hectare site along Gregory Hills Drive and is expected to create 684 jobs.
Gregory Hills Corporate Park director Satwant Calais said the corporate park precinct would create about 2000 jobs.
“We expect SOMA Lifestyle to quickly become the southwest’s go-to destination for shopping, dining and entertainment,” Mr Calais said.
“SOMA Lifestyle has been specifically designed as a welcoming, pedestrian friendly precinct. “Shops and restaurants will be surrounded by play zones, public open spaces and walking tracks along the river.
“As the population of this region swells, SOMA Lifestyle will also add almost 700 local jobs. This investment is a huge vote of confidence in the local community and will allow many more people to live and work locally.”
SOMA Lifestyle’s sister project, SOMA Wellness, is due for completion in April of 2018. It will include access to health services such as GP, pharmacy, radiology, pathology, dentistry, physiotherapy, podiatry and psychology.
