Leppington slimeprenuer Vanessa Iglis’ passion for all things gooey has turned into a phenomenon.
The 12-year-old discovered the world of slime on YouTube three years ago and last October launched her own business Happy Kids Slime, with even her little brother on the books.
The business has been an instant success, selling out of slime at her first shop at Willowdale Markets and hosting a number of sold-out school holiday workshops.
“It’s a bit nerve-racking hosting a holiday workshop but it’s really fun to see everyone’s face brighten up when they hear the word slime,” Vanessa said.
“When they make the slime they are all so happy and it makes me really proud.”
The Year 7 student at St Francis Catholic College in Edmondson Park shows other children how to make all different types of slime.
Varieties include clear, crunchy, cloud and glitter slime.
Mum Maria Iglis said she wasn’t a slime fan originally but has been converted.
“Seeing the excitement of the kids at the workshop is special,” she said.
“I couldn't believe how excited kids get by slime.
“I still don’t understand how or why it’s so satisfying, but I don’t think the phase is going away.”
Kidpreneur Vanessa, who has saved up and bought her first iPhone from the business endeavour, said there was a range of activities which can be done with slime.
“There are so many things and tricks you can do which makes it really satisfying to play with and watch it,” she said.
