Six-week-old baby dies after house fire on Darwin Rd, Campbelltown
A baby has died after suffering critical burns when a fire broke out in a Campbelltown house, with a community leader saying it was a “terrible” loss.

The Campbelltown community is mourning the loss of a six-week old baby who died after suffering critical burns when a fire broke out in a family home.
Authorities say the baby was severely burnt when the blaze erupted in the kitchen of the Darwin Rd home just after 2pm on Wednesday.
Paramedics rushed the baby to Campbelltown Hospital but he died a short time after arriving.
A toddler was also treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesman said police officers put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher from one of their patrol cars.
He said firefighters then ensured the power was off and the fire was properly extinguished.
“The mother presented the baby to paramedics for treatment,” the spokesman said. “Our investigator attended the scene and will work with police investigators.”
Campbelltown MP Greg Warren said it was a tragic incident and there were no words to describe the loss.
“You can’t begin to imagine what the family is going through,” he said. “All I can do is offer my sincerest sympathies and condolences and let them know they are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
“I am sure I speak on behalf of everyone in Campbelltown in expressing our grief and sorrow in what is a tragic circumstances. It is absolutely terrible.”
There has been an outpouring of condolences on social media with people expressing their shock at the loss of someone so young.
One reader commented “rest in peace little angel” while another posted “sending prayers to the family and all those who tried to save this precious little one”.
Neighbours told The Daily Telegraphscreeches could be heard from the baby’s mother.
Amber Knapp and her family only live a few houses away from the house where the fire happened.
Ms Knapp was at home with her child when she stepped out and saw smoke fumes.
“The entire situation is devastating, my heart really goes out to the family,” she said. “It really makes you think it could happen to anyone.”
A NSW Police spokeswoman confirmed the death was being investigated and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
