A photographer allegedly caught “driving around with drugs in his car” after police officers claim to have located a stash of party drugs including cocaine, MDMA and magic mushrooms, has asked the court for his bail to be varied.

Lachlan James Veld, 25, has pleaded not guilty to two counts of supplying an indictable quantity of a prohibited drug, three counts of possessing prohibited drugs, possessing prescribed restricted substance, dealing with property proceeds of crime

Court documents state police allege he was found at Gregory Hills with cocaine, magic mushrooms, MDMA and other tablets including antenex diazepam on July 8.

Veld’s lawyer told the court he was seeking a bail variation including a change of address, a reduction in reporting days and his curfew.

The lawyer told the court his client worked in photography and the curfew hours were “quite narrow”. The court heard Veld understood he cannot attend pubs and clubs but a change in the curfew would allow him to pick up other work.

Magistrate David Degnan questioned why Veld, whose listed address was at Rosemeadow, had consented to bail and then wanted to change it two months later.

“I can understand the change of address, that’s fine,” he said. “I don’t agree that reporting should be twice a week, I’ll leave it at three days a week.

“Why did he agree to a 7pm to 6am (curfew)? Why does he want to change it? I’m not keen on people agreeing to conditions and then trying to bargain it down.”

Mr Degnan said according to the allegations from police, Veld was caught at 8.30pm with two phones, “all these drugs and $730 in case”.

“[If bail] affects his employment, too bad ... he shouldn’t be driving around with drugs in his car,” he said.

A police prosecutor also informed the court some of the items for the brief of evidence were still outstanding, including an examination of the drugs and mobile phones.

“If they’re relying on things downloaded from the mobile phone to show that he’s a drug supplier, I would expect that to be served before I set a hearing date,” Mr Degnan said.

The matter returns to court next month.
