A southwest Sydney hairdresser created a fake Instagram account, posing as a female owner searching for fashion models, in which he sent manipulative messages to convince underage girls to send explicit videos.

Christian Medina, 41, fronted Campbelltown District Court on Thursday and pleaded guilty to possessing or controlling child abuse material using a carriage service and using a carriage service to send indecent material to a person under 16 years and transmit child abuse material to himself.

Court documents state the Middleton Grange man created a made-up Instagram profile of a young female to request videos from a 13-year-old girl he found on social media.

He instructed her on how to pose, what parts of herself to expose and how close to hold the camera with the lure being a chance to secure a professional modelling contract.

When Medina asked the teenager to send topless content, he told her, “the reason I ask for these videos is so you don’t get awkward. I want everything to be easy for you”.

Christian Medina will be sentenced later this year.

After she shared multiple images, the 13-year-old girl said, “I’m sorry but I’m not allowed to send any more videos of me topless”.

“I se [sic] you aren’t committed. Its ok. It happens. That’s why I push my models. I want to see how much they want it,” he messaged back.

“You have no idea how much money you will make … I’m here offering you probably 50k-80k a year as a model.”

The victim reported the incident to police and told officers that her Instagram showed her age, and someone had commented on one of her posts to look at their direct message.

The 13-year-old told police the person had said they had a company called Elite Wear, and they sold clothes, swimmers, and active wear and wanted her to be a model, but she had to send videos.

She revealed the videos started with her in fitness wear, then went to swimmers, but soon they pushed for topless ones.

Medina then used the same account to execute the same ruse on another young girl who was not identified but police estimate to be no more than 12 years old. Police found eight recordings across 27 files of the second victim.

According to documents, Medina also instructed this young girl to touch herself sexually.

Police raided Medina’s home on August 12, 2022, and uncovered a hard drive that pictured child abuse images of five young girls, not the victims he mentioned above. They found 104 images and 70 videos.

Officers also located the content the two young girls had sent him through Instagram.

During an interview with police, Medina said he just “found the account” and did “something very silly”.

When asked if he had a “fetish for a certain age”, he said: “No … well, now it seems like that, do you know what I mean? But, no … if anything, I’ve always liked, like, older”.

Medina remains on bail and will face a sentencing hearing in October at Campbelltown.
