Developers in one southwest Sydney area are looking to the sky as another proposals seeks to build a multistorey apartment block in the rapidly growing region.

The application seeks approval for demolition of the existing dwellings and construction of a six-storey apartment building comprising of 49 units and three levels of basement carparking at 17-21 Tyler Street, Campbelltown.

It would include 12 one-bedroom units, 32 two-bedroom units and eight three-bedroom units.

The proposed development would also have a communal open space which would comprise of a nature walk, seating, barbecue area, open style pergola and children’s play equipment including bespoke linear adventure trail play equipment.

Within close proximity to the site is the Campbelltown Showground, child care offerings, and educational establishments, including the Campbelltown Performing Arts High School, Beverly Park and Lomandra School.

In documents submitted to council, the developer said the Tyler Street precinct has an emerging character of high density residential development, including the northern side which has been redeveloped into residential flat buildings.

“The Campbelltown LGA is characterised by a variety of urban and rural land uses and extends from Glenfield in the north, to Menangle Park and Gilead in the south,” the document states.

“The dominant housing form is low density detached dwellings with groupings of medium density housing in some suburbs, and the recent emergence of apartment buildings in close proximity to the city’s main centres.”

It’s not the only apartment block submitted to council; recently a proposal sought to build an eight-storey residential building comprising of 75 residential units, and two levels of basement carparking, at 26-32 Iolanthe St, Campbelltown.

Meanwhile ALAND has lodged a proposal that envisions a new “destination precinct” on a 2.05ha site on Queen Street, to be comprised of a mix of residential apartments; retail and commercial spaces; with multiple, landscaped community spaces and a vibrant, tree-lined ‘Eat Street’ at its heart.
