Plans for a new eight-storey apartment building in the heart of Campbelltown has been submitted to council for approval.

The proposal maps out the plan for the demolition of all existing structures and the construction of an eight-storey residential building comprising of 75 residential units, and two levels of basement carparking, at 26-32 Iolanthe St, Campbelltown.

The building would house seven one-bedroom units, 58 two-bedroom units, nine three-bedroom units and one four-bedroom unit.

An area on the rooftop for a communal open space which would include seating, BBQ facilities and toilets, is included in the plan and a residents’ lounge is also proposed at the southern end of the roof.

According to a report submitted to Campbelltown City Council in August, development along Iolanthe Street is mixed both in terms of its use and its architectural style.

There are also commercial premises and charitable organisations including Uniting Burnside Bridges for Youth and the Nagle Centre run by St Vincent de Paul Society at the northern end of the street.

The block would consist of 75 units at Iolanthe St, Campbelltown.

“Although development along Iolanthe Street is varied in its use and form, with respect to scale development is typically one to two storeys in height,” the report states.

“Development in the vicinity of the site however is slowly transitioning in response to the high density residential zoning prescribed to the land under the Campbelltown Local Environmental Plan 2015.”

The development application points to other examples of high rise residential flat development at Warby and Chamberlain streets.
