Campbelltown police are investigating a series of deliberately lit fires in Leumeah across a number of days earlier this month.

A series of smaller fires were deliberately lit near Smiths Creek Reserve, at the end of Faraday Rd, in the days following a large fire which had been extinguished by emergency services. The large fire is not being treated as suspicious.

A Campbelltown Police Area Command spokesman described the behaviour as “criminal”.

“The outcome of their actions is quite significant in the cost to the community, as well as putting people in danger,” he said.

“We stand with our community. Most people are doing the right thing, most people look out for each other but there is a very small minority that don’t.

Police wish to speak to a person captured on CCTV, wearing jeans, a backpack and hat in the vicinity of the area at the time the fires were reported.

Campbelltown police officers believe the person could assist with their investigation into the Leumeah fire.
