Planning panel considers $70m Raby Rd piazza proposal

A MULTI million-dollar development, bordering Raby Rd at Gledswood Hills, is one step closer, with the Sydney Western City Planning Panel providing recommendations for the unique piazza-style project.

The $70 million proposal, neighbouring Lakeside Golf Club Camden and opposite Emerald Hills estate on Raby Rd, features three two-storey apartment buildings and 75 house-type dwellings on the 6ha site.

The proposed development is part of Sekisui House’s The Hermitage estate at Gledswood Hills.

At a recent Sydney Western City Planning Panel briefing, panel members recommended extra consideration to be given to the layout of the proposal, suggesting the design could better link with surrounding precincts.

“The proposal might also benefit from consideration of the layout of the development to think through ways it might better relate to its surroundings,” minutes of the briefing stated.

“For example, the design might make the piazza more functional by incorporating it in a practical pedestrian route or destination.”

Panel members also suggested further assessment of the safety and efficiency of the proposal’s pedestrian links.

Sekisui House general manager Craig D’Costa previously told the Chronicle the proposed piazza-style development would prioritise people over cars, providing a place residents could gather and play.

Subject to approval, the proposed development is expected to be the first major precinct offered in The Hermitage’s Gledswood Lakeside precinct.
