POPULAR Camden nightspot Barenz has entered voluntary administration, nine years after first opening its doors on Argyle St.
PKF Australia partner Trent Hancock has been appointed administrator of Barenz Pty Ltd.
A meeting was held in late October with creditors of the Argyle St business.
It is understood Mr Hancock has been urgently seeking expressions of interest from people keen to consider purchasing the business.
The popular nightspot was one of the first bar-type venues to launch in Camden’s CBD, receiving much fanfare when it opened in January 2009.
The business, which features restaurant, cafe, bar and function area, employs more than 30 staff.
Barenz managing director Luke Leone said the current trading of the business had not changed.
“We are trading as normal,” he said. He declined to comment about the business being in administration.
The Leone family has played a key role in launching the Camden hospitality scene across recent decades, with patriach Enzo launching Enzo’s Italian Restaurant in John St, former Hill St Italian restaurant La Bella Vita and former Argyle St cafe Cafe Leone.
PKF Australia partner Trent Hancock has been contacted for comment.
