PLAN ahead so you don’t alarm your neighbours if you’re planning on stripping off for World Nude Gardening Day on Saturday.
This is the advice of Campbelltown’s Tim’s Garden Centre owner Tim Pickles who said he had a big hedge around his home so he would be stripping off for the cause.
“You have to plan ahead and take a good look at your garden and make sure you are able to strip off in private,’’ he said.
“If you can’t strip off on Saturday, now is the perfect time to plant a hedge so you can get your garden ready to get involved next year.’’
The pig mascot outside Mr Pickles’ garden centre got tongues wagging and fans giggling this morning when it announced Saturday is World Nude Gardening Day.
To prepare for the day, Pig can be seen perched carefully behind a hedge to avoid alarming customers or small children.
With the temperature expected to reach a sunny 21C on Saturday, Mr Pickles said the weather would be perfect for anyone who wanted to go starkers as long as they ensured their garden was ready so they didn’t alarm the neighbours or the police were not called.
However, on the Tim’s Garden Centre Facebook page, reader Andrew Carter-Locke warned “Pig, some of us just should not garden nude.’’
“In the interest of my neighbourhood well-being, I have to stay covered. LOL.’’
Mr Pickles replied with a laugh that some people who felt they were too unfit to strip off could support the day mentally this year and then start training and get fit by gardening so they can take part next year.
One final piece of advice from Mr Pickles:
“For anyone supporting World Nude Gardening Day, be very careful if pruning or trimming your garden,’’ he said.
He also urges people to watch out for ants and insects and check where they are sitting on the day.
As a sunny day is forecast, don’t forget to wear sunscreen!
Pig, the social commentator, is well known in the community for getting people thinking and attracting the attention of the drivers who travel past the business every day.
In May, pig praised Campbelltown Mayor George Brticevic when he announced the council would plant more trees along traffic islands on major roads.
In March, Pig turned blue to support the mental health charity beyondblue.
