PLAYERS dressed in bright and colourful pink stepped up to the crease to raise funds for the McGrath Foundation at PInk Stumps Day, which was organised by Eagle Vale resident Kerri Robbins.
Mrs Robbins was inspired to organise the day at Camden’s Chellaston Reserve with her family and friends to honour her mum Betty, 84, who died of blood cancer earlier this year.
“Mum’s favourite colour was pink, cricket has always been part of our family and we wanted to raise money to help others,’’ Mrs Robbins said.
More than $1320 was raised by the 25 participants during the friendly hit and giggle game of cricket on Sunday.
The funds will help the foundation make a difference by helping place McGrath Breast Care Nurses in communities across Australia.
Mrs Robbins said when she saw a notice for Pink Stumps Day on Facebook, she was inspired to help. “It just seemed like the very best way to honour my mum,” Mrs Robbins said.
“Pink was her favourite colour, we held her a pink birthday party just before she died and her funeral had a pink theme.
“We wanted to continue to honour her legacy by having a pink fundraiser for cancer.”
Pink Stumps Day provides an opportunity for residents to participate in the spirit and energy and international phenomenon of the Sydney Pink Test, which is held each year.
