Spectacular gardens brighten Campbelltown and Camden competitions
Maureen Wenzel’s stunning Macquarie Fields garden and Linda Jane’s Spring Farm delight has charmed the Campbelltown and Camden Garden Competitions.
Maureen Wenzel’s stunning Macquarie Fields garden is the product of a long line of family gardeners.
Ms Wenzel’s garden has been awarded Grand Champion in the Campbelltown City Garden Competition. She said her passion for gardening stemmed from her mother.
“The outdoors and gardening has been a family affair for a long time,” she said.
“I’m a frustrated artist so I often like to sit and just create.”
Ms Wenzel said the display of greenery was put together from recycled, rusty or rescued plants.
“Other people’s trash is always my treasure,” she said. “We moved in here a few years ago and I had a blank canvas and a green lawn to create what I wanted.”
Campbelltown Mayor George Brticevic said the competition attracted 30 entries and he congratulated Ms Wenzel’s win.
“Gardening can be a relaxing and healthy past time, but it can also be a lot of work, and that hard work is reflected in the standard of entries the competition has attracted this year,” he said.
Linda’s triple gardening win
A DAZZLING Spring Farm garden created by retiree Linda Jane has charmed the Camden Garden Competition.
The former Eagle Vale and Campbelltown high school teacher won three categories including senior citizen, most creative and grand champion prizes.
The passionate gardener said she was overwhelmed to receive grand champion.
“I was stunned, totally stunned,” she said. “I thought my little garden didn’t have a chance. When I won I couldn’t believe it.”
The Meals on Wheels volunteer’s garden is a medley of colours, swimming with camellias and zygocactus and home to magpies and kiwi birds.
Ms Jane, 65, began her garden four years ago, wheelbarrowing more than 15 tonnes of garden product by herself.
“I love doing it, it’s my passion,” she said. “I am gardening even when it rains.”
The judges commended the plant selection and artistic use of colour.
A total of 25 entrants were nominated in 11 categories in the annual competition.
