Peter Gordon Reid, of Spring Farm, appeals verdict after posing as cop

A man who posed as a policeman multiple times in a single night and told a teen “if you try to escape I’ll f**k you over and you’ll go to jail” has appealed the severity of his jail sentence.

A man who posed as a policeman and harassed and robbed multiple strangers over the course of a single night in Sydney’s southwest has failed to cut down his jail sentence.

Peter Gordon Reid, of Spring Farm, masqueraded as a policeman on May 1 last year, making demands of a number of unwitting victims.

The 48-year-old wannabe cop threatened a group of youths with their arrest in a McDonald’s carpark because of where they had parked their cars. When one boy questioned his police credentials, Reid yanked him several metres before fleeing the scene.

Only hours later he continued his charade and knocked on the door of a random Spring Farm home. He told the residents a man could be hiding in their car, rummaged through it with permission, then left.

Shortly after Reid, driving a Ford Ranger ute, began to high-beam a 17-year-old riding a motorbike on Springs Rd, Spring Farm. The teenager pulled over for the wannabe cop and was told he had been clocked speeding.

With the boy’s licence at his nearby home, Reid agreed to follow the boy home and said words to the effect of “if you try to escape I’ll f**k you over and you’ll go to jail”.

Reid arrived at the victim’s home and ultimately stole his licence and his Go Pro camera.

He was convicted of three counts of impersonating a police officer, common assault and larceny.

Appealing the severity of his 20-month jail sentence in Campbelltown District Court on Friday, Reid’s lawyer told Judge Andrew Colefax the original 20-month sentence was “proportionate” but called on the 12-month non parole period to be reduced.

She told the court Reid, since being in jail, had been engaging in treatment courses for substance abuse and was being mentored by a church pastor.

Mr Colefax dismissed the appeal and confirmed the original sentence handed down in Picton Local Court. Reid will be eligible for parole in December this year.
