Perich Park proposed for Oran Park site

The Perich name will live long in the history of the Camden area, but a permanent reminder to the family’s contribution may soon be placed in the heart of Oran Park.

The Perich family name will live long in the history of the Camden region, with a permanent reminder to the family’s contribution proposed for the heart of Oran Park.

Greenfields Development Company, the developers of Oran Park and owned by the Perich family, has lodged a request to name an area of green space as Perich Park.

The park would be located opposite Oran Park Library.

The proposed name would honour the deceased Kolombo and Julia Perich, who emigrated to Australia in 1938 and owned dairy farms in the area, including the current Oran Park site.

The request, which had been endorsed by the Camden Historical Society, was unanimously supported by Camden councillors present at last night’s meeting.

Camden Mayor and newly-elected Camden Liberal MP Peter Sidgreaves spoke glowingly of the contribution made by the Perich family.

“I think it is fair and reasonable (for the park) to be named after this family,” he said.

“Certainly, in respect to Kolombo and his wife, it is fair to honour this family and all the work they have done not only in development, but other community events and sponsorship that they provide.

“They are a good family and I think we should support that.”

The naming application has been referred to the Geographical Names Board.

Councillors Rob Mills (Independent), Paul Farrow and Cindy Cagney (both Labor) were not present at Tuesday’s meeting.
