Oran Park Podium expansion: Developer Greenfields says new centre could open by Christmas

One of the Macarthur region’s newest shopping centres is set to super-size in a multimillion-dollar expansion, which will welcome 60 new shops, restaurants and cafes … possibly by Christmas. See what’s planned.

A multimillion-dollar expansion to a Macarthur region shopping centre – set to feature 60 new shops, a major supermarket and restaurants – could be open by Christmas.

The major expansion of Oran Park Podium is under construction, with the current works set to be one-and-a-half times bigger in size than the existing shopping precinct.

Greenfields Development Company general manager Mick Owens – the developer behind the shopping hub – said the new retail space would include a Coles supermarket and more than 60 retail spaces for food and speciality shops.

New retailers locked in include Best and Less, The Cheesecake Shop and Lone Star Rib House.

“We are probably about halfway done,” Mr Owens said. “We are trying to open up for Christmas this year, but it is touch and go. We lost a lot of time due to wet weather last year, but we are tracking well.”

Mr Owens said there would be a large childcare centre, operated by Exploring Tree, located on the upper level.

It’s not just full steam ahead for the shopping centre, but construction has also started on a second commercial building, a residential tower, the Oran Park Tavern and the Oran Park leisure centre.

“The commercial building should be open in October and will have a Thai restaurant and The Naked Duck cafe,” Mr Owens said.

“Then we also have the leisure centre that is under construction which we expect to see open mid next year. The tavern we are hoping to see open around March.”

An apartment building named Metro Central, to include 66 residential units, is under construction and will sit adjacent to Metro Central. It is expected to be completed later this year.

Mr Owens said since day one Greenfields had been focused on creating “a complete town”.

“We are only just starting to see some of those things we have been planning for so long starting to come out of the ground,” he said. “It is very exciting.”
