The Macarthur region could soon be home to a state-of-the-art co-ed private school catering for up to 2000 students.

To be named Regis Grammar, the likely site for the school is on the doorstep of the newest part of the fast-growing Oran Park, known as Pondicherry Lake Precinct.

The planned school would also include a childcare facility licensed to care for up to 90 children.

“As you will see from the proposed placement of the buildings and facilities on the site, the school will be a high-end school,” a statement from Regis Grammar said.

“[It will have] first-class sporting fields, swimming pools, gymnasium, a performance hall and plenty of opportunities for music, dance and other cultural activities.”

The school will be known as Regis Grammar School Oran Park.

The development for the kindergarten to year 12 school plans for a 30m outdoor pool with an undercover learn-to-swim complex, a library and tennis, futsal and netball courts.

Mick Owens, the general manager of Greenfields Development Company, said a key concept behind Oran Park was to ensure a variety of schools could cater to the population.

“We started here with the Oran Park Anglican, we have two very good public schools, and then this one will be a grammar school, and we also have the Catholic schools close by,” he said.

“We are trying to provide choice for our residents for what sort of school they want to send their kids to. It’s been a conscious decision since day one, and the Regis school is just an extension of that.”

Mr Owens said it was still early days, and they were in the process of making the Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARS) application which ensures new schools meet all the requirements.

Developers hope to see the school open in 2026, depending on approval processes.

“The school is looking to open in 2026, which is the ideal timing, but you never know,” he said.

Regis Grammar has revealed the first headmaster would be Shane Hogan.

“This is a major coup for our school as Shane is regarded as one of the top headmasters and educational leaders in NSW,” the school said in a statement.

The statement said Regis Grammar would focus on helping each student achieve their academic potential and life goals.

“We do this by making sure goals and capabilities are matched, the mind is stretched, the heart is nurtured, and the hands, guided by the head and the heart, are put to work,” it said.

“There is no learning without understanding and no understanding without doing.”

As it is still in the early stages of development, exact figures for school fees will not be known until closer to the opening date.

“We expect our fees to be higher than those in the Catholic and Anglican school systems and to be comparable with those charged at Hills Grammar,” the statement said.

“While the fees for the various school class years have also not been set at this time, our expectation is that the variations for students in the junior, middle and senior schools will also vary in ways that are similar to those at Hills Grammar.”

For a year three to six student, an annual fee for Hills Grammar can cost $20,230 while it can set the family of a year 11 to 12 student back $29,300.
