STAGE one of the Campbelltown Rd upgrade is full steam ahead, following a multimillion-dollar commitment by the State Government.
NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet announced a $26 million investment to the stage one redevelopment plans, which will see an upgrade to the road in Edmondson Park.
Plans for the upgrade have been discussed by the RMS since early 2014.
The redevelopment would include a four-lane divided road with a wider median strip and the installation of three sets of traffic lights, as well as off-road shared pedestrian and cycle paths on both sides of the road.
According to the RMS website: “As a principal arterial road, Campbelltown Road would play a major role in accommodating traffic to and from Casula, Liverpool Central Business District (CBD) and Campbelltown CBD, including traffic generated by the Edmondson Park precinct
and traffic associated with the SWGC. The South West Rail Link (SWRL) is expected
to attract a number of additional trips and would increase localised pressure on
Campbelltown Road as it becomes an important link to Edmondson Park Station.”
The Campbelltown Road Route Strategy Review was completed in 2010 and concluded that improvements to this section of the corridor would be necessary in light of future developments of the Edmondson Park precinct.
Roads Minister Melinda Pavey said projects announced in the NSW Budget showcases an overall statewide investment of $9.1 billion to continue building and improving road, maritime and freight infrastructure.
“Never before has NSW seen such investment in bold infrastructure,” she said.
“It’s a clear sign of our economic strength in being able to deliver more jobs, improve efficiency and provide benefits to consumers at the till.
“From the city to the bush, we’re sharing the wealth so all regions continue to thrive.
Ms Pavey said infrastructure works will address pinchpoints in urban areas to improve traffic flow and ease congestion.
