PAID parking at Campbelltown Hospital is one step closer, with the State Government allocating $25.4 million for additional hospital parking in today’s state budget.
The multi million-dollar investment will give hospital patients and their families access to an extra 669 car parking spaces.
Camden state Liberal MP Chris Patterson welcomed the investment, declaring it will cater for the region’s future.
“Our region is growing so it is only natural that the demand on our hospital will also
grow,” Mr Patterson said.
“I have worked hand-in-hand with the community to guarantee these upgrades to our
hospital as I know too well how crucial these services are for locals.
“Not only will this carpark meet current demands, it will also take into account projected
growth for the future of our hospital.”
A development application for the eight-storey paid carpark was lodged to Campbelltown Council in December last year.
Motorists can expect to pay up to $18 a day to use the future car park.
Campbelltown state Labor MP Greg Warren said the Budget had the wrong priorities for the Macarthur region.
“As sure as a Budget must be balanced, it must also be about priorities, but this Government and their Budget simply have the wrong priorities,” he said.
Mr Warren said the Budget locked in the Government’s plans for a paid carpark at Campbelltown Hospital, which he predicted could see users paying rates of up to $24 per day as was the case at other hospitals in southwest Sydney.
Campbelltown Hospital general manager Alison Derrett previously told the Macarthur Chronicle the eight-storey carpark will be located on the southeastern side of the hospital, near Appin Rd.
Campbelltown Council declared its opposition in February to paid parking at Campbelltown Hospital, with Campbelltown Labor Mayor George Brticevic accusing the NSW Government of “double-dipping”.
