Catherine Field husband and wife team Kevin and Teresa Mamone purchased the shop in January as the community feared the Macarthur Rd site had been sold to developers.

After six months of blood, sweat and tears, the new-look store is preparing to be revealed once more to the Camden faithful.

The interactive store will feature a juice bar, kids’ playground and even a chicken coop where children can pick their own free-range eggs.

In coming months sheep and goats may soon graze the site.

Grand plans of a mobile cafe are also in the works with Teresa Mamone telling the Chronicle she wishes to transform the Camden Fruit Barn into “a destination”.

“The vision it to basically revamp it and bring back that country, industrial vibe to the shop,” she said.

“We want it to have a wow factor. It won’t be just a normal fruit shop you can see anywhere else.

“Camden is about family and community so we have tried to incorporate that into the Camden Fruit Barn.”

The Mamone family are well-connected to the produce industry, operating a transport company out of the Sydney market, and were once frequent customers of the Camden Fruit Barn.

The revamped store will feature fresh salads, yoghurts and even have its own mobile phone app.

The store is expected to open within the next three months, pending approvals.
