The 27 year old, who was addicted to the drug ice, stole a Milwaukee power tool kit valued about $1300 from the Rodeo Drive store on May 11.

Coyne indicated to police he intended to swap the power tool kit in exchange for 2g of ice, valued at $500, from his drug dealer.

He arrived at the Total Tools franchise about 4.30pm and soon after walked out of the loading dock with the power tool kit in his hand.

In the loading dock, a store employee confronted and questioned Coyne about the payment for the power tool kit. Coyne argued momentarily and walked away.

A male employee then chased Coyne across Rodeo Drive and attempted to grab the power tool kit, triggering a struggle between the pair which caused the stolen goods to fall to the ground.

The agreed police facts reveal Coyne then stood over the kit, pulled out a 30cm knife and in his right hand and brandished it at the employee.

“With the blade pointing towards (the employee), the accused menacingly uttered words to the effect of ‘go on, take it’,” the facts stated.
