It is a new era for arguably Camden’s most valuable parcel of land with new owners, a consortium led by HT Retirement, revealing its grand plans for the infamous old Camden High School site.
The 2.66ha John St site was sold by AEH Group to the consortium for an unknown price earlier this year. Listing agent Colliers International initially asked for a price north of $23 million last October.
HT Retirement, which operates retirement villages in Mount Gilead and Bowral, revealed exclusively to the Macarthur Chronicle the consortium’s vision of establishing a vibrant seniors living precinct in the heart of Camden.
“The Camden Central site represents a great opportunity to deliver retirement living options for people in a location that is highly accessible to the town centre and enables people to age in place in the region, which is what they want,” a spokesman said.
“HT is committed to managing the site as an integrated developer and operator with decades of experience in the industry and a track record for operating successful communities.”
The site was purchased with a multimillion-dollar retirement precinct — incorporating 15 buildings, 162 seniors’ living apartments, a 76-bed retirement aged care facility, motel and medical centre — already approved.
The spokesman said, however, plans could change.
“The consortium is still working through planning to deliver the best possible outcome for the Camden community,” he said.
Construction on the site is expected to begin late this year.
