The countdown is on for the opening of the highly-anticipated Gregory Hills Town Centre this Thursday.
The Chronicle had a sneak peek of the $30 million state-of-the-art shopping centre which will feature a dining precinct, 20 specialty stores, medical centre and a concept model Woolworths supermarket.
Dart West Retail general manager Brad Page said it was a shopping centre built for the future.
“It’s a beautiful building, it’s a beautiful shopping centre and it is going to be something that’s great for the town,” he said. “It’s a landmark for the area and it’s something we are proud of. This is not a shopping centre for 2019, this is, probably, a shopping centre for well into the future.”
Mr Page said Dart West Retail, which also operate Narellan Town Centre, has been inspired by the history of the growing area.
“We are trying to build a shopping centre that reflects the aspirations of the residents of Gregory Hills,” he said. “The way Dart West works is very local focused — we spend a lot of time and effort in ensuring we hire and employ local people.
“It is something that reflects what we do everyday, not just what we do in public. What we do take from the community, we put back into the community.”
The 7500 sqm town centre features a 450-space car park, with Sushi Culture and Taste of India to operate at the shopping hub.
The Woolworths supermarket, which was off-limits on the sneak peek tour, is promised to be a supermarket which has never been seen before in Australia.
Mr Page said it was packed with “interesting stuff” and that Woolworths had “pushed the envelope” with the concept store.
Gregory Hills Town Centre grand opening celebrations will unfold from 9am Thursday and take place across the weekend.
A range of free children’s entertainment is on offer, including face painting, balloon shaping, creative workshops and even a guest appearance from Batman and the Ice Princess.
Mr Page encouraged the community to come and enjoy the festivities.
“For an opening day you always want to be there and celebrate what is new,” he said.
