A Macquarie Fields man accused of luring a seven-year-old girl into an abandoned house on Saturday afternoon has been remanded in custody for two months.
Christopher Irwin, 34, appeared briefly by audio visual link at Campbelltown Local Court today where his matter was adjourned to August 8.
Wearing prison greens, glasses and with his hair slicked back, Irwin only spoke twice during the brief mention, saying “yes” when asked if he could hear Magistrate Ian Guy and on another occasion when asked if he understood the proceedings.
Police allege the Macquarie Fields man, who lives less than a kilometre away from where the alleged offence occurred, lured the girl into an abandoned house and removed her jumper.
After the alarm was raised, two men and the girl’s grandmother entered the abandoned house and retained the man until police arrived.
Irwin has been charged with take/detail a child with intent to remove parental control, remain in building with intent to commit indictable offence and two counts of failing to comply with reporting obligations.
He has an intellectual disability and autism.
The matter is due to return to Campbelltown Local Court on August 7.
