THE brakes have been applied on the M9 Outer Sydney Orbital, according to Camden state Liberal MP Chris Patterson.

Mr Patterson confirmed to the Chronicle today the gazettal of the motorway corridor is no longer in the Government’s immediate plans.

Mr Patterson said the Government had listened to community feedback surrounding the proposed eight-lane motorway, and was focused on “getting it right”.

“Everyone has taken a huge deep breath,” he said. “There are no plans in the immediate future to look at gazettal.

“Feedback from the community has been to take the time to get it right,”

Mr Patterson said later corridor gazettal could potentially occur in other parts of Sydney this year, but he could confirm the Camden and Macarthur region was “not even on the agenda”.

“What I do know is it is absolutely not going to happen in the Camden and Macarthur area (this year),” he said.

It follows a Camden Council submission to the Department of Planning and Environment, in relation to the Western Sydney Aerotropolis, which asked for certainty and definitive time frames around the delivery of mass infrastructure, including the M9 motorway.

“It is important that definitive time frames for corridor protection, land acquisition and construction of the Outer Sydney Orbital corridor, as well as the North-South Rail Line corridor, are established and executed,” the council submission stated.

“Infrastructure planning is already under way for these corridors which influence both existing and future residents of the Camden local government area and Western Sydney Aerotropolis.”

A Transport for NSW spokesman said community consultation was continuing.

“We are continuing to work closely with the community to further minimise the impacts of the Outer Sydney Orbital corridor and ensure the best possible outcome for the people of western Sydney,” the spokesman said.

“It is critical that we plan transport connections now to accommodate for future growth.”

IN OTHER NEWS

In July, a Transport for NSW spokesman told the Chronicle a refined corridor proposal was expected to be submitted to the Department of Planning and Environment by the end of the year.

The State Government announced in June a backdown from the original Outer Sydney Orbital proposal, instead proposing a 10km underground tunnel which would leave communities such as Cawdor, Grasmere and Ellis Lane relatively unscathed.

A state election is scheduled for March next year.
