NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian today unveiled flashy designs for the $632 million revamp of Campbelltown Hospital.
Plans for a new 12-storey clinical services building were revealed and Ms Berejiklian and Health Minister Brad Hazzard inspected the start of construction on the hospital’s long-awaited $34 million multistorey car park.
Ms Berejiklian announced the stage two redevelopment last year and health officials have since undertaken a community consultation campaign.
Locals today got a first glimpse at the new-look hospital campus.
“The Campbelltown region will, for the first time, have the most modern and exciting
health facilities that this community deserves,” Ms Berejiklian said.
“We are building this hospital with the future in mind — more modern wards, more
treatment spaces and world-class medical and surgical services.”
Mr Hazzard said the new clinical services building was five times the size of the existing building.
Campbelltown state Labor MP Greg Warren said the Government had failed to properly staff the existing hospital.
“We don’t need photo opps and fancy brochures at Campbelltown Hospital,” he said.
“Today the Premier and Health Minister came to Campbelltown Hospital to re-announce something they’ve already announced.
“What they’re refusing to do is fund our nurses, doctors, physicians, clinicians and vital health workers to match any redevelopment.
“They still refuse to build a paediatric intensive care unit.”
Mr Warren said the Government still planned to charge people to use the “taxpayer funded” car park despite existing parking being free.
The redevelopment follows on from the $134 million first stage redevelopment which included a multistorey acute services building with new inpatient wards.
