A FUTURE Sydney World Trade Centre, with the potential to soar to 100 storeys, could be built just 10km from Camden.
The proposed centre, which would feature four towers, an international convention centre and commercial space for multinational companies, is earmarked for a 120ha plot on the southern fringe of Bringelly in the Camden local government area.
Aerotropolis Group CEO and managing director Jomon Varghese told the Macarthur Chronicle the potential for the Macarthur region was immeasurable.
“Sydney will be connected to 322 other locations across the world,” he said.
“If you could create employment here in western Sydney, that would be a great relief for the people.”
The $8 billion WTC proposal, lodged with the Premier’s Department this year, has several possible sites, including Bringelly, under consideration.
PricewaterhouseCoopers, the Sydney World Trade Centre’s economic partner, has projected it would create 43,000 direct jobs.
Mr Varghese said he hoped the project would open alongside Western Sydney Airport in 2026.
Camden Liberal MP Chris Patterson said the investment, in principle, must be seriously considered.
“We are talking a billion-dollar investment, thousands and thousands of jobs,” he said. “This investment in the area needs to be seriously looked at.”
The land borders a University of Sydney land holding, also in the Camden LGA, which has been earmarked for rezoning since 2017.
