CAMPBELLTOWN Hospital is set for its biggest makeover in decades.
The Macarthur Chronicle can reveal preliminary plans for a new 12-storey clinical services building to be built on the site.
The new hospital building will cater for a larger emergency department, new clinical services and women’s health services, state-of-the-art operating theatres and increased medical and surgical children’s services.
The existing rear building of the hospital, known as block C, will be demolished to make way for the new building.
Mental health services provided at Waratah House Mental Health Unit and Gna Ka Lun Adolescant Mental Health Services will be relocated to centrally located modern mental health units within the new building and their existing sites also demolished.
The new building forms part of the $632 million stage two redevelopment announced by Premier Gladys Berejiklian last year.
New nuclear medicine and dental services will also be included in other parts of the hospital.
A spokesman for Health Infrastructure NSW said existing buildings would also be refurbished.
“The clinical services building is expected to be up to 12 storeys tall, and will be further refined as design progresses,” he said.
“More clinical services and medical specialties will be available at the hospital, which means the local community will have access to healthcare closer to home.
“The redevelopment will provide an increase in the total number of beds for the hospital.”
A State Significant Development application is expected to be lodges with the Planning and Environment Department in the coming months.

Camden state Liberal MP Chris Patterson said the redevelopment would build on the previous $134 million stage one redevelopment.
“It’s building on a fantastic base and it will be world’s best practice for the people of Macarthur,” he said.
The Chronicle previously reported a new eight-storey carpark would also be built as part of the redevelopment.
Funding for the carpark will be separate from the $632 million pledged to the stage two redevelopment.
Further community consultation sessions are also planned for the redevelopment.
Expressions of interest are also open for community representatives to share ideas for future plans and see first hand how the project is being run.
