CAMPBELLTOWN’S old RTA building and the nearby Marketfair Shopping Centre are set to be “flattened”in the future to make way for high-rise development.

The site at 3 Tindall St has been on the market since last year and is likely to be sold when land around Macarthur railway station is rezoned as part of the NSW Government’s precinct plans.

Selling agent Garth Makowski, from Harcourts Campbelltown, said there had been significant interest in the property.

“It’s currently going through the rezoning,” Mr Makowski said.

“We have a number of clients who are interested subject to the rezoning going through.”

Under the precinct plan, the land has been earmarked for a mix of retail and residential development seven storeys or more.

Mr Makowski said developments within the precinct were likely to reach 20 storeys and higher.

“It will be a continuation of retail such as what you see at Macarthur Square on the ground floor with residential and commercial in the higher levels,” he said.

“It would be a precinct similar to Park Central but with a higher density.

“It could start in a number of years or within the year; it just depends on the rezoning.”

The RTA building in Campbelltown was controversially closed in 2015 alongside motor registries at Ingleburn and Narellan.

All its services were transferred to the Service NSW Centre at Gregory Hills.
