The 22-year-old moved into a home on Matavai Street, Cobbity, with his girlfriend in February 2020, according to court documents.

Just weeks later, police searched the house and found roof cavity filled with a Nike shoebox containing $100,000 cash, a Beretta pistol and magazines of ammunition.

A grey duffle bag was also discovered, containing four tubs of methylamphetamine of around 1 kilogram each.

Police also seized a blue Coles freezer bag containing 15 smaller resealable bags with around 300 grams of the drug ‘ice’.

Police estimate the street value of the drugs seized to be around $1.5 million dollars.

During the search, Cusumano’s girlfriend told officers he was not home and that she’d dropped him off at Edmondson Train Station.

With no sight of him, police made a public appeal to locate the man they say is part of the Lone Wolf outlaw motorcycle gang on March 18.

He was arrested three weeks later.

Judge Andrew Colefax told the court the 22-year-old did not return to the premises after being notified of the search warrant.

“Three weeks later on April 6 you had not been arrested but you presented yourself to police at Surry Hills,” Judge Colefax said.

He noted Cusumano had an “unfortunate childhood” that was dysfunctional and needed ongoing psychiatric treatment.

Cusumano also expressed remorse for the offending and had the “continuing love and support” of his partner, who was present in court.

“Your prospects of rehabilitation are reasonable and will be enhanced for a longer period on parole, but nothing other than prison would be appropriate,” Judge Colefax said.

Acknowledging proper psychiatric treatment would not happen in prison, Judge Colefax sentenced Cusumano to an aggregate term of imprisonment of five years, with a non-parole period of two years and six months.

His partner and three family members broke down from the public gallery, as Cusumano blew them a kiss as he was lead out of the courtroom.
