Kearns stabbing: Troy Adam Smith charged with drug and weapon offences

A man has fronted court accused of hiding information about a stabbing attack in Sydney’s southwest. Police believe the violent attack stemmed from a clash between neighbours.

A 36-year-old man arrested by police following a stabbing in Kearns has appeared before the courts for the first time, accused of covering up the bloody crime.

Troy Adam Smith, of Kearns, was allegedly at the scene of the stabbing which has believed to have stemmed from an argument between neighbours on January 14. A man, aged 36, was allegedly stabbed about 10.40pm and taken to Liverpool Hospital.

Police officers from the Public Order and Riot Squad, Dog Unit, Tactical Operations Unit and Campbelltown City Police Area Command responded to the incident at a Kearns Ave home with initial inquiries leading police to believe the victim was attacked by two male neighbours. The men allegedly fled the scene.

Smith was arrested the next afternoon at a Kearns Ave home and charged with concealing a serious indictable offence, drug possession and possession or use of a prohibited weapon without authority.

Court documents allege Smith failed to report an incident involving a third person, who police suspect is responsible for the stabbing. Smith was also found in possession of 0.1g of cannabis.

The Kearns man did not formally enter a plea before Magistrate Ian Guy at Campbelltown Local Court on Monday, with the matter adjourned so he can meet with a Legal Aid lawyer.

He remains on conditional bail and will return to court on March 3.

No one has been charged with the stabbing, with Campbelltown Police continuing to investigate the incident.
