A man accused of firing gunshots in a suburban street on the outskirts of Sydney has been identified after being slapped with a fresh criminal charge in court.

A 40-year-old man accused of firing gunshots in a southwest Sydney street has been identified after being slapped with a fresh criminal charge in court on Monday.

Ingleburn man Kane Gordon was arrested on Saturday night by Campbelltown police following an investigation into a public shooting on Harper Way, Ingleburn.

Police were alerted to the scene after reports of gunshots ringing through the area about 5.30pm.

Officers from Campbelltown Police Area Command searched a Harper Way home and allegedly seized a rifle magazine and ammunition.

Gordon made a bid for bail at Parramatta Local Court on Sunday but was refused, with the charges of fire firearm in public place and possessing an unauthorised firearm mentioned in Campbelltown Local Court on Monday.

The 40-year-old was also hit with a new charge of stalking or intimidating a woman with the intention to cause fear in Ingleburn on the Thursday night before the alleged shooting.

The matter will return to court in coming weeks.
