Sydney rapper John Lavulo, known as ‘Big Kash’ has appeared in Campbelltown Court while recovering from a gun-shot wound to his shoulder, following an apparent drive-by shooting outside his home earlier this month.
Police are continuing to investigate the shooting that occurred on Lachlan Street, Warwick Farm on August 8.
Lavulo’s 22-year-old girlfriend Amelia, who was with him at the time, escaped any injuries when the gunman allegedly opened fire towards their car.
However, Lavulo, who is well-known on the western Sydney rap scene was rushed to Liverpool Hospital with a wound to his arm.
The 33-year-old appeared in Campbelltown Court on Thursday, still wearing a sling, for an aggravated break and enter charge from 2018.
Lavulo represented himself in court and handed the judge a sick note, explaining his serious injuries.
He admitted to being on the heavy painkiller Endone, to help reduce the pain following the shooting.
Lavulo, was successful in reducing his reporting days to a police station to three days a week as part of his bail conditions.
Outside court, Lavulo said he had turned his life around since discovering music, and ‘has left that life a long time ago’ referring his time spent in a bikie gang.
He said he expects his recovery to be slow and that he ‘ripped off his skin graft the other day.’
The rapper’s girlfriend Amelia admitted she’s fearful for their safety following the shooting earlier this month.
She says Lavulo getting shot ‘was scary’ and that his ‘wound looks like raw meat.’
The 33-year-old will meet with Legal Aid before returning to Campbelltown Court on September 10.
