The Macarthur area’s iconic landscapes have been filmed for the last time for the popular drama A Place to Call Home, with filming of the show’s sixth and final season now completed.

FOR five years, the Macarthur region’s iconic landscapes, including Camelot, Camden and Wollondilly, have been admired by audiences around the world as the backdrops of the popular Australian period drama A Place to Call Home.
But the cameras have rolled for the last time in the Macarthur region with the filming of the show’s last-ever chapter, season six, finishing last week.
Popular actress Noni Hazlehurst, who returns as wealthy matriarch Elizabeth Goddard in season six, was keeping mum on what plot awaited Elizabeth in the 10 episodes which make up season six.
Season six will air on Sundays from August 19 at 8.30pm on Foxtel showcase and streamed on Foxtel Now..
The popular drama, which is based at Kirkham’s Camelot, and screens in 120 countries around the world, has been loved by audiences since it began in 2013.
Set primarily in the fictional estate of Ash Park (Camelot) and the nearby fictional town of Inverness, Camden, Brownlow Hill, Wollondilly and the Southern Highlands have all served as the backdrop for Inverness.
A video of the cast sharing their reactions to the news that season six would be the last and posted on the showcase Facebook page has attracted 31,000 views in 21 hours.
Actress Marta Dusseldorp, who plays Sarah Adams, said she had completely accepted the decision that season six would be the last and it was the right time to end the series.
“Like any good book you have to close it one day,’’ she said.
One fan posted on the showcase Facebook page that the drama was far and away the best Australian series she had ever watched and the wonderful actors had portrayed their characters so well.
The drama, set in the period following World War II, follows Sarah Adams (Dusseldorp), who has returned to Australia after 20 years abroad to start a new life and ends up clashing with Elizabeth Bligh (Hazlehurst).
Season six takes the much-loved characters into 1960.
Series Creator Bevan Lee said season six truly completed his vision for the series.
“I promise to bring the show to its finale on a wave of tears, laughter and most importantly, closure,’’ he said.
Foxtel’s Executive Director of Television, Brian Walsh, said A Place to Call Home would be long remembered for its captivating narrative, outstanding performances and world-class production values.
“A Place to Call Home was a series which was saved by its fans and so the journey of this, the final chapter, is a very important one,’’ Mr Walsh said.
A Place To Call Home debuted on Channel 7 to strong ratings, but was axed after two seasons.
The series was then picked up and produced by Foxtel after a vigorous campaign from its fans.
