Jenni Baird returns to Camden to shoot Logie-nominated role for A Place to Call Home

ACTOR Jenni Baird plays the most notorious, unpleasant and hated role on Foxtel’s A Place to Call Home — and she’s fine with the fans’ animosity.

ACTOR Jenni Baird is reprising her role as Regina Standish, the most notorious, unpleasant and hated role on Foxtel’s A Place to Call Home — and she’s fine with the fans’ animosity.

For her efforts in bringing the anti-Semitic and evil character to the screen, Baird has earned her first Logie nomination for Most Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2016.

“I never feel the hate is personal. I think it only indicates that I’m doing my job because that’s the purpose that I serve,” she said.

Baird, along with the rest of the cast, has returned to Kirkham’s Camelot near Camden this week for the filming of season four scenes at Ash Park.

The former All Saints star said she was aware of the repugnance for her character from social media comments, including on Twitter where #HateHer was trending for some time.

“People say things like ‘I’m not going to watch the show if that Regina is going to be on it’,” she said.

“When it comes to the racism of Regina, you have to set that aside and say it is a character and there are people like that in the world — so representing that is important.”

While not able to give much away, Baird said fans could expect a much more intense season.

“Everything’s definitely amping up this upcoming season. If it is at all possible, Regina is worse.”

Baird said she was enjoying her time back in Camden.

“I love it out here. It’s a country experience so close to Sydney. I bring my kids here and they love the cows and horses. It’s lovely,” she said.

Also up for Logies on May 8 from the show are Marta Dusseldorp in Best Actress for her role as Sarah Adams, David Berry for Most Outstanding Supporting Actor for his role as James Bligh and the series for Most Outstanding Drama Series.

Baird will be going up against her good friend and former All Saints co-star Celia Ireland who is nominated for her role in Wentworth — another Foxtel program.

Season four of A Place to Call Home will air this year on Foxtel’s SoHo channel on a date to be announced.

Last season, the series was Foxtel’s second most-watched program after Game of Thrones.
